Mr. Nigel Rajaretnam
Mr Nigel Rajaretnam graduated with Honours from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland in 2008. He began his surgical training in Ireland, however sought further training opportunities in New Zealand in 2012.
He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2019. He undertook further specialist training in Endocrine and Bariatric Surgery in Waikato Hospital in Hamilton. He has an active interest in both Endocrine and Bariatric surgery.
Mr. Rajaretnam maintains an active interest in academic surgery, and has published papers in many peer reviewed journals. He is a peer reviewer for the World Journal of Surgical Oncology. He continues to be involved with research and is involved with international research collaboratives.
Mr. Rajaretnam is the clinical Lead for the Nutrition Support Team for Waikato Hospital, working closely with dietitians, nurse specialist and pharmacists for all patients(medical and surgical) requiring nutritional supplementation. His particular interest is in total paraenteral nutrition and nutritional issues in patients post bariatric surgery.
Mr. Rajaretnam is a supervisor for interns and house officers in Waikato Hospital. He also teaches medical students from the University of Auckland.
In July 2021, he will be returning to Dublin, Ireland for a 1 year Fellowship at St James' Hospital. He has also been appointed as the Senior Lecturer in Surgery in Trinity College, Dublin.
Mr. Rajaretnam lives in Hamilton, New Zealand with his wife, Nicole and their 2 children.
